My 2 francs worth:

I had a similar problem, the first time I replaced the clutch on my type 3
volkswagen. I turned it into a pickup, but that's another story.

I had replace the clutch, worked ok but slipped sometimes. I removed the
engine (again, I must've pulled that engine 20 times), pulled the clutch,
found nothing, sent the flywheel out for resurfacing (where they also
machine the mating surface of the pressure plate mounting flange to the
right dimension). Voila! reliable working clutch.
