I think there are a couple of reasons. One is that not every region has 
a smooth lot to race on. Many, like our old Kent site, are quite bumpy 
which is tough a kart driver (or an F440 driver for that matter). Here 
in  Seattle we have the additional problem of rain. Face it driving an 
open-top car of any sort in the rain is no fun, even more so when you're 
inches off the ground and getting splashed with water constantly.

We used to see the occasional kart now and then but it's been years 
since I've seen one at a regional event although there are usually a few 
at the NT.

I can see why F125 is in trouble if there are too many regions where the 
site surface or the weather prevents F125s from showing up.
