Hi Mike,
Yep I removed the stock fan and double pully and the stock rad shroud.
I bought a 10" super slim-line rad with electronic thermostat from JC whitney.
THe fan has its own shroud built-in and would not fit with the stock shroud.
The fan is set as near to the center as I could get it but the water pump
pully is in the way of really centering it. Les says to either space the rad
forward of space it backward and mount the fan in front. I have always believed
that fans work better pulling air thru so I left it on the back. It seems
to work great. Irene and I got stuck in some BAD SF traffic trying to get out
to Oaktown a couple of weekends ago when it was pretty warm out and the temp
gauge just pretty much sits at 180-I do have a 160 thermostat though. I have the
fan set to go on at like 195 and off at about 175ish-not an exact science
unfortunately. If I was going to do it again I would not buy the electronic
thermostat but instead buy this neat combo temp gauge fan controller from Summit
It a digital readout water temp gauge but it also controlls a fan too. You can
set the exact temp that the fan turns on and the exact temp that it turns off
and you get an 'accurate' temp reading.
One of the best things about the electric fan is how QUIET it is. No
more fan noise-especially with the 7-bladed fan yuck!!! And yes I do believe
that I noticed the engine reving up faster-easier after I got rid of the
7-blade smog fan.
