According to my ace gearbox guy (and NONE of the many ribcase gearboxes he
maintains pop out of gear) the synchro hubs are what keeps the gears
engaged. The bungee cord trick puts pressure on the shift forks to force
the synchro hub to stay in place, and since the shift forks are made of
relatively soft brass, they wear rapidly under this abuse (and they're not
only expensive, they're becoming very hard to find). The ribcase parts are
pretty much interchangeable with the internals of 3 synchro Mini
transmissions, and they take a lot of stick these days - up to 150hp - so
ribcases should be able to do the job if properly maintained.
