You could fit Ted's uprated springs.  Not only are they of a higher spring 
rate (won't compress as much under load) they are longer and will raise the 
unladen ride height to that of a 76 model car.  If you fit his front springs, 
too, 
you can leave them in and not swap springs for the road trips.
