This layshaft has fairly deep wear where the bushing rode on the shaft. I
would not use it. the design of these transmissions is the worst i've ever
seen, I've never seen a cluster gear which rode on bushings instead of
roller bearings. this is one of the main reasons I'm upgrading the car to a
71 transmission, besides having a first gear syncro, it uses roller bearings
instead of brass bushings.

Chuck,
Most (all?) of the layshafts for these boxes show signs of wear with some
grooving, it normally doesn't matter. This is unlike the four synchro
layshafts which need replacing if the surface is pitted which is common.

I've got a completely disassembled 69 spitfire tranny for sale. I was going
to rebuild it and swap it into my wifes 70, but decided to buy a later
tranny with syncro 1st gear. The tranny is completely disassembled, all the
gears look good. The layshaft needs to be replaced.

If you're looking for all or part of this tranny please let me know.
