Terry,

I doubt if many of your MMM friends drink schnaps but one never knows!

We're off in a few minutes but I'll try to answer some of your questions.
The casting is called the 'nose piece' and is a very critical piece of the
engine. It should have the engine number that it belongs to stamped on the
front face, or at least the last two digits. If the number is wrong you may
have an alignment problem. The engine and the nose piece started life as a
matched pair.

There is no gasket for the dizzy, but do you have the correct adaptor for
it? Thats the piece between the dizzy and the nose piece. On my cars there's
plenty of end float though I can't tell you how much, I've never measured
it! The dizzy and oil pump must not bind.

There's absolutely no way to guess the thickness of the dynamo shims, you
can only determine that after you've fixed the crankshaft thrust and the
dynamo drive gear. When that's all correct you can offer up the dynamo and
determine what shims (if any) it requires.

My wife is yelling that we have to leave ...............

I'll be in touch after Christmas.

Have a great Holiday, Cheers, "Bob".
