Hello All,
Sorry for being so post-crazy lately.. I am coming up on finals week
and my brain is desperetly trying to think of anything else but Electrodynamics.
So here is my brains current fixation... I think I planned it all out
last night while I was trying to fall asleep...
How about a supercharged roadster??? I think its possible-doable.
Here's what I came up with.
First, design and build a working cold air induction box.
Move my lovely 100amp chrome alt to the lower left smog side.
Several companies make centrifugal superchargers. They are small and
pretty efficent. A company called Vortech makes a model that is desingned for
small Jap. fourbangers and does not look to be a whole lot bigger than my
GM one wire alt. I would have to fab up some mounts for it but it should
fit on the high right side of the engine. Some models require them to be
plumbed into the engines oil system some are self contained. I would rather
used a selfcontained supercharger but finding one in the correct size. i.e
small enough might be hard.. Seems like most manufact. are going after the
5 liter Mustang market..
This will be a blow-thru design..hence the need for a good working
airbox. I will need to use a special electric fuel pump that will keep the
float bowls pressureized like 2-3 psi higher than the airbox. I am sure
jetting the solexs will be fun.. Luckily Mikuni makes a huge variety of jets.
An air to air intercooler will be required.
I will also need a more efficent rad. to handle the extra heat.
The goal is to pressureize the air to about 10psi(after the
intercooler) in the airbox. I figure (loosely very loosely) that this should
increase my rear wheel horspower to over 200hp.and because its a blow thru
design my throttle response and torque in the lower rpm's will me greatly
increased.
        Sounds like fun huh???
Am I nuts or what?? Lots of you will say YES!!! If I am looking for
that kind of horsepower I should jsut install a newer SR-20 engine or something.
Yes I know but then it won't be a roadster engine..and since I have a
practically new U-20 I don't see the need to replace it just yet..
        Reality Check:
I am estimating that I can make the cold air induction system for about
        100 bucks
Vortech wants $1495 jsut for the supercharger?!?!? No mounts no inter
cooler no nothing!?!?! These guys are crazy!! I will have to keep looking..but
I am afraid that they may be my only choice.
So maybe I could do this for ~2000 bucks!?!?! That is crazy...but
what-the-hey.. aren't signing bonus's meant to be spent on stuff like this??

Ahhh I feel better already..mind clearing ready to hit the books.
