With Danny Shields' recent articles about this and several postings touching
on this subject along with high speeds being obtained by high performance
stock cars (like SS), it is now high time to propose the removal of DOT R
Tires (called "cheater slicks") from the stock classes. There are many
arguments in favor of this but several readily come to mind: <big snip>

Jim,

What readily comes to MY mind:

1. As long as there is a substantial base of competitors who LIKE to run
DOT-R tires, in all likelihood they will continue to be legal for Stock
class.

2. There are both regional and national street tire classes now available
for those who want to run on street tires.

3. This debate is traditionally carried on during the off-season...since the
season has officially started, this particular subject is out-of-bounds for
discussion at this time.

4. With the amount of bandwidth currently being used on this and other
lists to debate the events of this past weekend at Ft Myers, there is not
enough left for another controversial subject here anyway.

5. With all due respect, your other suggestions for making Stock more
"stock" are debated on a yearly basis, and like DOT-R tires are still not
things that the majority of the Stock competitor base desires.
