In the DP Mini, I run a mix of 25% Prestone green stuff & 75%
distilled water and then add the appropriate amount of Redline Water
Wetter. Because of the compression, timing, and other mods, the
little beastie has always run hot. This combination seems to give the
best result of everything I've tried so far.
I also have an electric fan.
As a side note, my 1996 Chebby S-10 tow vehicle (4.3L Vortec V6) came
from the factory with the orange Dexcool stuff. Prior to leaving for
Topeka last year, I took it in to the local Texaco XPress Lube for a
routine oil change. (I spend too much time working on the Mini to
change oil in the truck myself) At the time, it had about 70K on the
clock.
They went through their normal check-everything routine and then
called me out to the service bay for a first-hand look at what they'd
found. Inside the radiator was a massive accumulation of gunk that I
can only equate to good ol' Louisiana red MUD! It took three complete
flushings before they and I were satisfied that it was clean enough to
go ahead and refill it! Any ideas on what caused that gunk?!?!?
As an aside, I'm now having trouble with a sticking thermostat and I'm
firmly convinced it was that gunk that's causing it to stick now.
