It's cosmetic. There is a 'road scoop' on late cars that ducts air (hot off the road) into the bottom 3 inches of radiator. Not sure if it's any more effective than the hood scoop, but it looks like

I seem to remember (from the Rallye book) that the 310 has a smaller, differently-shaped tunnel than the 311, and that makes the 5-speed a tough install. Can anyone prove or refute this? Toby

The later cars don't have separate shifter rods- that's done on the tail housing of the tranny. The earlier ones had a top housing, but I didn't think you could get it off with the tranny in the car

That's a tough one, since aluminum itself is really reactive, and therefore oxidizes pretty fast. (the oxide is quite stable, tho, and has given aluminum a reputation as being low-corrosion. amazing
