Tom, back then the were no statistics compiled. That came much later,
mostly after Tom Finlinson and I, at K and K, started the SCCA Safety
Stewards program to try and combat increasing insurance rates.

As to the changes, they were mostly made in response to member requests
and perceived safety needs, most of those on the marks, but from gut
feelings, not statistics. I think most of the business pressure came
from the car manufacturers wanting a class for themselves (TR 5 has
C.P., Corvette has B.P., MG B has E.P., etc) Sure there were other
cars in class, some of them running really strong, but the mfg kept up
pressure to allow mods to keep there current model in a winning position
in class. Thus you had the Kas Kasner's, Bob Tulius's, Joe Huffacker's,
etc, all with considerable factory support. It ain't changed a bit.
Look at show room stock, which is no more stock today than my
typewriter. L.D.
