How old is the unit? My 4A has an Allison XR700 I installed in 1979. It has
a purple, red and black wire .
Red to Coil +, Black to Coil - and purple to engine ground. Also, my unit has
paper placard with wiring directions on the underside of the control
unit...suggest you remove and look there to make sure.
Randall, thanks for the link to instructions. I have a Lucas sport coil, also
from the late 70's, and did not install a balance unit for the XR 700. Does
anyone know if this coil has internal ballast?
