ISTR the term "Jeep" was a diminutive of GP which itself was short for
General Purpose.

In the RAF the term "Wimpy" indeed referred to the Wellington medium bomber
in use during the early part of WW2. With two Bristol Hercules radial
engines and a geodetic mainly non metallic construction it was capable of
taking enormous punishment and still making it back.
