Alan,
I rebuild my ZS carbs last winter, and to my surprise actually did a
decent job. I purchased the Haynes techbook for Webers, which also
covers ZS and SU carbs. The book was a lot of help, about 12 pages of
good pictures and instructions to follow for several types of ZS carbs,
including the CDs.
I used carb cleaner and a tooth brush, a lot of soaking and scurbbing to
get them clean. Some parts soaked in the carb cleaner overnight.
The carb rebuild kit I purchased (from Motorhead) had more parts than I
could use. Be prepared for that, it seems that they will pack several
types of parts (gaskets and washers) for differnt carb types.
I rebuilt mine in a large plastic tub one carb at a time.
