Sounds do-able.  Chris K. mentioned awhile ago that the Datsun Z-car
rear ends/rear suspension seems to be the choice for complete swaps.
Add some coilover Koni or Carrera shocks, and you're set.

All that hacking in the back and no flares?  Not even small tasteful ones?
Okay, you could "roll" the inner lip of the fender and get an extra 1/4-1/2"
in clearance there.  What size will fit will probably have alot to do with
what you do to the rear suspension.  Ride height and lateral location of
the hubs are probably the critical factors.  Where the hub is will guide
the choice of backspacing as well.
