Shelby Plans all-new Cobra
Twin-turbo V-8 powered roadster expected to debut in '95

Carroll Shelby, driving and car building legend, says he is tried
of the imitators.
So Shelby is returning to the high-performance, two-seat-roadster
business.
"Detroit is in for a surprise," Shelby said last week in a
statement. "Before they throw the last shovel of dirt on me, I
want to take one more shot at an honest to goodness Cobra.
Don Landy, president of Shelby American Management Co. in McKinney,
Texas said the car is scheduled to debut in 1995 priced between
$175,000 and $200,000. There are three major financial
participants in the new enterprise. Landy refused to say who they
were. He said more information on the project will be released
over the next several weeks.
"We're shooting for a sub-four second zero-to-60" time, says Landy.
"Top speed is not important to us. But the car will be able to run
to 100 and back down to zero in 13.5 seconds."
Landy says the company plans to build "100 to 200 space-age
composite cars weighing 2,200 pounds." The car will be powered by
a 500-horsepower V-8 with twin intercooled turbochargers. Power
from the engine will be pushed through a six-speed manual.
The article included an artist conception of what the car might look like.
I would describe it as a cross between a Cobra and a current model Corvette.
So, the real thing or just some more blatherings form ole Shel?
