Piners,

Lets all just mellow out here for a bit, and think about what we are
doing and saying.
This has happened before, and will surely happen again.

Remember a few years ago the poster who sent reply emails
with outrageous vulgarities asking for the emails to stop.
Turns out someone in his family had subscribed to the list
and was using his email.
Remember how we tore him apart?

It seems very easy to say some very rough things through a keyboard
that would never pass ones lips in person.
We have not gotten any "through list" spam in years, and thats becuase
a real spammer wont go to the trouble of subscribing to a list.

When I saw the address of the originator of the "boy scout" email,
I recognized it as an occasional poster.

While I am totally against spam emails, and really dont care for too much
off topic list discussions, I am even more against the alienation of our
Rootes bretheren.

I carefully read TJs response to this issue, and feel that it was very
well worded.
It stuck to factual information, and did not personally attack the
person who sent the email.

I figure that this was a mistake on the part of the sender no matter how
one looks at it.

A mistake that once learned, most likely will never be repeated by
that person at least.

Its often very tempting to want to CC the whole world for very dear
issues.
Its easy to do when just the single alpines@blah_blah.com will reach the whole
list.
I dont think we gave Joe the opportunity to explain his actions, one might
interpret that as an off topic post.
And where would we draw the line in off topic posts?
The boy scouts?
Funky looking pontiacs?
The last breath of Ausie leyland?
The pros and cons of V8s/V6s/rotaries in alpines?

I am not justifying the actions of Joe here, but I do hope he stays with us.

Firesuit on.
