Hi everyone, Based on the thread a little while back regarding 91 octane gas, I'm wanting to ensure that I'm getting every last erg of output from my not-so-large high revving V8 engine. So I'm wonde

If your engine is not knocking, getting higher octane gas won't help you a bit. There is no additional energy or performance in higher octane fuel. It just has a slower burning characteristic that a

Thanks for the info, sounds like race fuel at the pump is the more effective solution. The engine is not knocking, yet I fear that since it's designed for 92 octane, the engine's OBD II system is re

I dunno about other cars, but the neons I know will only advance timing to the point where the spec gas (91 for DOHC, 87 for SOHC) would knock, even if you've got more octane. I'd think that it'd be

True, but our cars are no longer getting 92 octane. So upping it back to 92 could have some benefits. That's what I intend to find out. I don't know about the computer on other cars, but on BMWs OBD

If you happen to have an OBD-II diagnostic tool, you should be able to monitor for knock retard/knock sensor counts to see if the PCM is retarding timing or not with the 91, I think. That should help
