Most fuel authorities concede the addition of MTBE reduces gas mileage.

Using 100 octane unleaded is a positive ONLY when you are under extreme
acceleration mode. A lower octane fuel pings sooner and the black box will
detect this and cause the timeing to be retarded to reduce pre-ignition.
For most normal driving in today's cars most mfg recommend the lower
octane.
