Ther is no doubt that synthetic oil out-performs conventional oils, but
there is one other major concern - the viscosity. I run straight 30W in my
Brit cars, because it holds a MUCH better hot oil pressure (in my cars) than
even a 20W50 multigrade. Synthetic oils tend to be very wide multigrades - I
even saw a 0W50 from Lubromoly! But a single oil change would tell you how
the oil pressure behaves in your particular car.
Either way, be sure to change the oil just BEFORE you lay the car up for the
winter - combustion acids will develop in a synthetic as well, making clean
oil for winter storage just as important.
