To clarify, look at a car that has multiple motors on the same line. Using
the example that I know from experience, let's look at the 93+ Camaro
Z28...93-97 used the 275-285HP LT1 motors, 98+ have the 305HP LS1 motor .
In stock it's NOT legal to swap an LS1 into and LT1 car, even though
they're listed on the same line, but it is in SP under the update backdate
rule. Now say that the earlier cars were lighter (they're not, but for the
sake of this example...) or had a better transmission (the 93s had lower
gears for first and second than 94+) Now you can build a car that has the
best of both worlds in SP. But, it's not legal for Stock.

As far as engine swaps in stock, if a car had the EXACT same motor for four
years running and were on the same line, I don't see why it wouldn't be
legal in stock, because if it was the EXACT same motor, on protest teardown
the specs would match the book for the year of the car. But, any difference
at all would make it illegal, if it wasn't covered by a TSB or recall of
some sort for the earlier motor...

I know I can count on the stock knowledgable folks to correct me on that
last bit...I have no stock experience, I'm an ESP type guy :)
