I will recant my previous statement. From the respose to this list and
individually to me, there seems to be a BIG difference East to West. And yes
there are events here on the Right side that cannot be defended as what most
of us consider vintage. Don't lump us all together, just as we wouldn't
consider all West coasters to be "Fruits & Nuts".

Strangely, from what I have heard, we are more safety conscious and value
our machines and lives more. Can that be true? Or is this just another
example of the media taking a 1% sample and exterpolating the result?

You may not see it that way, but that is rather scant reason to
disregard Mr. Watt's observations--observations which seem to me be be
entirely correct. I saw the Speedvision coverage of the Lime Rock event
tonight, and saw machines that wouldn't be seen on the west coast at a
VARA event, much less at CSRG, HMSA, or SOVREN, and prolly not even
  SCCA-Vintage.

You felt qualified to define "the core of our sport." >>>>>

AS A MATTER OF FACT, I AM QUALIFIED TO MAKE THAT STATEMENT.

 <<Your sudden reticence is a relief, however.>>

I have be accused of a lot, but never of being "reticent".

<< I have reflected on Mr. Watt's post,
and on your reply, and I see just words that make no sense.>>

I have communicated with Mr. Watts and believe him to have legitimate and
valid concerns. However, none of this is germain to the subject, which is
evaluating and possibly controlling "MECHANICAL FAILURES".

Saying that SVRA, CSRG, HMSA, VSCCA, whatever...... has stupid rules and
accepts cars that "WE" wouldn't is not solving anything. (I know you didn't
say that, but I am trying to make a point). The VMC has tried for years to
bring the groups together. Lets face it. We are very divided in a common
sport. Why not share information that may save a life instead of going on and
on about this widget or that?

 Once again respectfully,
 Jack Woehrle
