Last week I posted a request about using a "Superstarter" on a
non-beveled flywheel ring gear. The consensus was that it wasn't a
problem and I want to thank everyone for their help in this matter. So
I went off to my local parts warehouse to buy the Izuzu starter that had
been touted in the past on this bulletin board for use in Sprites. In
my naïveté, I assumed English is English, Lucas is Lucas so all British
starter motors were created equal. Imagine my surprise when I found a
#16878 starter but discovered that the mounting holes were 5 in. apart
whereas my starter motor mounting holes were 4 .5 in apart. Further
research revealed both in common use. Dumb me! Now to my problem--Does
anyone know of a Japanese starter (Hitachi or NippoDenzo) which works in
the Lotus, Hewland, Mini application? Dick
