Gerard,
you can't replace the rear oil seal leaving the engine in place. When
rebuilding my TR3a engine I choose to alter the rear oil seal mechanism. The
grove in the crankshaft has been removed. The two metal oil seal assembly
pieces have been altered to match a modern Rover 'rubber' oil seal. This
altering needs to be done by a specialist. I won't be troubled by oil leakes.
Even if so, I can easily change the oil seal!!
