As it only smokes under deceleration I would first check all the smog /
PCV plumbing and make sure it's in order.

If so, and you still smoke, then I'd hazard a guess towards the valve
guides.  Is there any reliable way to check these without removing the
valve?

Do you have a valve-train oiler?
