APOLOGIES - THIS REQUEST FOR HELP HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SPITFIRES!!!

OK, having got that out of the way, I have a quick question concerning
air-con units - not something I'm too familiar with, having only acquired a
car with air-con for the first time last September. When I last used the
air-con before the winter, it worked fine. Now, I turn the air-con on and
the air doesn't get any colder.

Are there any common faults that could happen to an air-con unit due to
being left unused for 6 months? Is there something I can (reasonably)
easily check and fix? Or should I just take it along to an auto
electricians to sort out (which is the only option I have right now).

The unit is not any sort of fancy climate-control, auto-temperature-sensing
sort of thing - it is a simple on-off button on the dash that makes the
ventilation air colder when it is switched on. There seems to be
electricity to the switch, since it lights up when it is pressed. Beyond
that I have done no exploration so far. For info the car is a Citroen
Berlingo, although to those in the US (who mostly have much more experience
with air-con than those in the UK, where it is still the exception more than
the rule) I doubt that means much!

Thanks for any suggestions!

Richard Gosling
