Hey John,
BTDT on both counts. When I built my shop in here in Las Vegas is was a
similar distance from the house. I was pretty confident I would not have the
slope for reliable sludge transport. I elected to install a separate septic
for
the garage and included a dump station for the motor home. It was worth the
$1000 it cost me.

My shop is 25 x 50 with the full bathroom, an office and a parts room. My
MasterCool swamp cooler provides all the cooling I need through out the summer
heat. It'll easily cool the space and drop ambient by 30 degrees. As you're a
bit more humid in AZ you might not be that efficient. The trick with a
swamper is to open a door or window opposite where you want to cool so the air
flows to that area.

Hi Mark,

You could always do what I did, I found a house right in the middle of the
city with a 24 x 24 shop in the backyard and plenty of hardscape around it.

I'm interested in the answers you get here since I have sub-standard
electrical service to my shop, and no plumbing facilities. I've thought
about renting the house out at
a later date and keeping the shop, but I'd need a toilet and such to make
that practical.

I'm also trying to decide on cooling systems (no need for heat here in AZ).
Does anyone have thoughts on which is better, swamp or AC? My thoughts are
swamp coolers are more efficient but take longer to cool the place down.
Since I only get the chance to work a few hours a week what about putting a
big wall mount AC unit right next to my work area and just running it when
I'm there vs. having to wait for the swamp cooler to chill the entire shop.
Also it's not insulated yet so I don't have much hope of keeping it cool
with 10' ceilings and fiberglass roll up doors. Has anyone on the list BTDT?

Thanks,

John
