Hi Greg,  Yes, I have had the plugs out, distributor and its drive gear out,
alternator and belt removed, car in neutral and clutch pushed in just in case.
Engine will not budge in either direction.  The mechanic indicated that the
2000 crank has bearings that are a "babbit" (spelling?) type -  very soft.  He
did say it is possible that if dry enough the crank could "grab" one.  I am
totally ignorant on this subject.  In reponse to Mark's email, I did consider
pulling the car around to get the oil moving w/ the crank/cam etc.  But, now I
am afraid to turn anything w/ the timing chain already torqued.  Larry.

  Wow Larry.  I assume you are trying to turn the engine with the spark plugs
out? If not, that will help a lot.  You can also remove the distributor and
drive gear, rig up an electric drill with a cut off screw driver that will
slot into the oil pump and turn the pump that way to get oil to the bearings.
I don't remember which way the dizzy turns off the top of my head (I think it
is counter clockwise, but do check... list?) so you want to turn the oil pump
the same way.  Also, spray some penetrating oil inside each piston through the
spark plug hole... the cast iron rings may have attached themselves to the
piston walls after all this time.  I would not imagine that it is cam
bearings, as there should be enough slack in the chain to allow some movement
of the crank, especially if you are turning it backwards.  Also, if you used a
good assembly lube on the crank and rod bearings that stuff is probably still
there even though you have cranke
