Just my 2" here, but am I correct in that someone is moaning that some of the
raffle prizes given out by event were in fact purchased as opposed to donated?
So what's your point? That only donated prizes be given out? Or that all
prizes should be bought? Or that they not receive the same fanfare as the
other prizes? Or that only those companies that do a full donation be allowed
to participate? Or that you feel that the explanation should not have been
given? Or is this an attempt at getting publicity for you? Or... what?
Sadly, there aren't tons and tons of vendors out there willing to source and
provide the parts we need / want. If there were, then we'd more than likely be
going down to Pep Boys, Schucks, Dusty's, G.I.Joe's, or AutoZone or some such
other.
But there aren't, and due to that fact, there aren't a whole lot of companies
to contact, that are willing to give up any part of the small amount of
business there is, just to garner a small amount of publicity at an event. If
the items in question were bought at cost, then there HAS been a donation made,
the profit that could have been made on those parts
I have a better idea. Since you obviously don't want the organizing committee
to buy prizes in the future, then YOU take over the organizing of the event,
and then you can limit the prize donations to only those companies that give
their product away. Or better yet, why not have YOU pay for the items that
cannot be obtained EXCEPT by being paid for at cost, then YOU can claim the
donation?
Then we get another comment:
" I have a real problem with the way Fairlady Products attempted to garner
favor with the entire Roadster community by
appearing to be SO GENEROUS with his donation, while the other vendor gave for
FREE items to benefit the event. Some of whom really couldn't afford the
gesture, but gave nonetheless."
This sounds more like a bad case of sour grapes than anything else does. Trust
me if those people who purportedly couldn't afford the gesture REALLY couldn't
afford the gesture...they wouldn't have done it ... period.
So before you go ranting about your right to a viewpoint, etc. Just remember
this:
"What happens when those vendor decide they've had enough, or worse can't stay
in business and leave the Roadster the community? Well, I'll tell you what
happens, prices will go up and there will be no more "free consultation" from
those who actually own, repair, correctly restore and have the passion for our
little cars. They just won't be there for us. Wal-Mart is great for prices,
but have you ever gotten any quality advise (I.E., service) from there. "
This also happens when vendors decide they no longer want to deal with the
"idjits".
If all you can do is criticize or other wise comment how you could have done
better.... then get off
your fat arse's and do so. Otherwise, keep your comments to yourselves.
