We just went through a similar discussion on the lotus-cars list a short
time back. The bottom line is that both Lotus Cars LTD (UK) and Lotus Cars
USA have internet access and have been invited to join our list. This is
a slightly different situation than in this group, in that Lotus is
still "alive" as a manufacturer, but I hardly see them wanting to push
advertising $70K Esprit Turbos at the group (or pushing parts either).
On the other hand I see things like first hand press releases and factory
info becomming available to our group, and by their good will Lotus will
see indirect thanks (through dealer sales) and direct thanks from the
readers.

Now the problem: We are all anxiously awaiting their arrival, but haven't
heard a word yet. For all I know they may be silently "lurking" (just
listening), but I think Alan (our list administrator) would let us know
when they come on board.

>From what I see this would be a fantastic benefit to the readers and I
hope Lotus isn't afraid that they'll be bombarded with info request and
such that they won't be able to keep up with. I trust people wouldn't
"abuse" them and so kill the goose about to lay the golden egg. We'll
see. At this years LOG convention, Patrick Peal (head of communications)
said that Lotus really wants to get in touch with its customers to assure
they build what the Lotus enthusiast wants and to solicit input into the
features of future cars. What better forum than this list?

As to independent parts dealers: I'm not aware of any with internet access
or about to join the list. I'm sure if things were "low key" enough, that they
would be welcome too.

I sure hope they "connect" soon.
