The Pi data aq system in our BP car does a pretty good course map using
lateral
G's and the wheel speed sensor for distance.  GPS would probably require
differential GPS for
decent resolution and even then only ok for a road course but not for an
autocross course.
Example course map output of the Pi system is attached.

The accuracy of GPS technology is better suited to buses and push bikes
than solo2 though.
