Something else I like about the Fram .. it's right there on the Wal-Mart
shelf when I need it. No mail order. No 10-day wait. No schlepping over to
that specialty speedshop on the other side of town >>
~~~I actually have answers for you on this, but first let me say I support
the "sponsorship" deal, getting the name out there is a great thing...now for
the tech stuff
The "bypass valve is actually an anti drainback valve, keeping the filter
from being empty at startup and when it dislodges it will usually crush part
if the filter media causing a partial blockage, this could also cause the end
cap on the media to seperate, worst case scenario is that the filter becomes
completely blocked and will occasionaly balloon....have I ever seen this,
yes, 4 times once on one of my 455 powered Buicks,yes it was a Fram,it
happened at the dragstrip, I caught a ride to K-mart and picked up a
Purolator and that is the brand I'm currently running 2 of the other failures
I've seen were also Fram the other was a K&N right after they came on the
market, I still run K&N air filters but won't use thier oil filters. I use
the Purolator Pure One on my RX-7 and my '68 Skylark I use the regular
Purolator on my '72 SportWagon becuase it flows a bit better due to less
filter media and I feel more comfortable with that since I'm running that car
at the dragstrip alot(246 passes down the 1/4 mile last summer)
The bottom line on this is run the brand you are happy with after all it is
YOUR car, to motorheads brand loyalty is alot like religion "your" brand is
always the best.
I'm still an autocrosser but will be running a full season of bracket races
this year as well, for 2 reasons, I have a great track here in town and the
other reason is....they actually pay the winners about a $1000 purse and it
pays down through the semis, this I can deal with
