Hi All,

Just couldn't help weighing in on this subject. My 75 TR6 is supercharged
and I absolutely love it. It's not a kit from Moss or any other kit, it's my
own unique design. The car is very streetable and really scoots when asked.

I enjoy the high tech side of things and do my own work. This is an original
TR6 engine that has been rebuilt and modified. Starting at the bottom, the
crank is stock, the rods lightened, flywheel lightened, harmonic balancer
for serpentine belt, all balanced and blueprinted, cylinders bored 0.20",
late model low compression head at 7.75:1, ported and polished, Integral
supercharger cam, full sequential multiport injection, Eaton supercharger
w/electric clutch, intercooled, distributorless ignition, programmable
engine management. The supercharger can be kicked on from a dash mounted
switch and runs about 8.5 lbs of boost pressure. The car dynoed at 168HP at
the rear wheels so the flywheel HP is near to 200 with tons of torque. It
drives pretty much like a stock TR6 until you hit the little green switch
and engage the supercharger.

All that aside, the discussion is about the cost of supercharging. I have to
estimate my out of pocket cost to be near $4K. The biggest expense items
were the engine management system at $2K, engine machine shop operations
like boring and line boring for cam bearings was about $600, new
supercharger a steal at $250, intercooler $200, injectors $200, fuel pump
and regulator another $250, pistons $250, cam $175, and lots of little bits.
My labor was not included for virtually everything else like engine
rebuilding, manifold fabrication, supercharger drive system, plumbing,
wiring, intercooler mounting, air tube fabrication, etc. On top of that
there is a ton of testing and tuning to get it to where it is today.
Countless hours of enjoyment building the car- priceless.
