Ingenious priming mechanism you worked up. Possibly a TSO article in
the works, with photos?
As for the gauge, I believe it's self-purging of air. Mine has been
disconnected twice and neither time have I done anything but reconnect
the tube. I suppose you could assist the purging of air by leaving the
tube nut to the gauge loose until oil begins to seep out, then
tightening.
