Marc,

I run the other type with the centered spring and it makes no difference. I
run a 160 and it doesn't help as the cooling system is marginal on these
cars but I do believe that the design of the cooling passages in the block
and head are to blame also. Several heads I have have pitting around the
thermo housing due to cavitation. I spoke to a few people and showed them a
head and they said it was the design that caused the problems. Water/AF
doesn't like hitting walls and then traveling 90 degrees to get out. I got
one welded up and changed the angle a bit. We'll see if that helps.

If you removed that ugly valve then run with the heater cracked open a bit.

FWIW, the entire cooling system in my car is either new or in excellent
shape - the oldest part is the heater core and that has been flushed too. I
run a triple row 2L rad and a Spal 14" fan. I also use Waterwetter.

Mike
