Could anyone straighten me out on the mechanism by which the
temperature is read on a '64 1500.  I "envision" that a sealed bulb is
threaded into the cooling system near the water pump / thermostat
housing or thereabouts.  

Does it work by expanding a metal (and thus "thermomechanical") or is
it some kind of solid state device (I can't imagine this being the
case in 1964)?

My interest is that up to about early 1977 the Midgets were fitted
with a "thermomechanical" temperature sender.  These parts are longer
available from any aftermarket dealer.  The other thing is that the
Midget has a combination Temp/Oil Pressure gauge.  So in the end, I
have to go to a bone yard and find a Midget (or Spitfire) that has the
whole gauge intact.  This is a pain in the arse.

I expect that I will send the gauge out to have it "restored".  If I
do, then I will post the information on the Roadster list.
