Charles and all,

At one time I offered a lifetime warranty on the finish of my Remanufactured
SU carbs. This lasted for about one pair, then had to drop the finish
warranty. I tried clear powdercoating, teflon, automotive clearcoat,
Eastwood's Aluminum clearcoat. I tried it all, with the help of an
aerospace contractor here in Boise (Lynn Industries) . Nothing held up to
Berrymans carb cleaner!!!!!! In fact, the powdercoat was the biggest
disappointment. It got soft under the chemical attack of carb cleaner.

I won't reveal the formula I use to get a very high "hard" shine on my carb
aluminum, but I start off by using a ultrasonic vat cleaner, then blasting
media AC, which is a glass bead as fine as talc powder. The blasting
evens out the coloration of the aluminum. AC is soooo fine, it clogs the
blaster incessantly. Mucho PITA factor. But AC will not remove any surface
material, except perhaps .0001 worth (mfg specs @40 psi blasting pressure)

For polish maintenance, I'd just keep them clean and polished with a rag and
aluminum polish. Carb spray cleaner does well.
