Polished Aluminum

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to preserve the surface shine of
polished carburetors, intakes and valve covers? I want to preserve my work.
Also any polishing techniques and tools.  I currently use a dremmel tool but
the wire disks last about 30 minutes and cost $2.50 each. Any suggestions
would be appreciated.  I'm hoping some of the professional restorers would
share their secrets.
