Lads,

I have heard that "Easy-Off" (the oven cleaner) will
shine-up aluminum. This is a convenient way to put on a thin layer of
"hydroxide." This should shine up the carbs, however it will not last
(same as the wire wheel).

Both methods remove the surface patina (chemically or mechanically).

Without some kind of "chemical" protection the surface
will again "age" (patina). The protection would be some kind of wax
or clear polymer coat. The problem here is . . . how do the polymers
stand up to heat and the gas/oil that is generated in an engine? I
suspect not very well.

Sorry, this does not exactly answer the original question - how do you
keep it looking good?

Cheers,
