Hello to the List:
I want to thank the list for the lively discussion regarding the HANS device
(or similar ones). I understand the reluctance for some readers to change
over to such a safety device. Once you get used to a set-up it is often
difficult to make a change for any number of reasons - comfort, expense, or
perceived reliability issues. In any event, I did not hear any compelling
reasons
not to use one and I will buy a HANS device as planned. My car will be a
new ride for me and as such, there will be an adjustment for me in either case.
And of course, I understand that racing is a dangerous sport and my original
question was an attempt to address this issue. We all make attempts to
increase the safety of our sport and some seem to go a bit further than
others.
This was to be expected.
I think I will take Henry's (#4 TR4) advice and unsnap the clips while in
the paddocks. While I do not know how to respond to Carl's threat of violence.
And finally, my particular helmet came pre-drilled for the HANS device which
should address Rick's concern regarding the structural issues.
I want to thank everyone who took the time to respond.
Best regards,
Erich
