Actually Randall the bolts do not take the vertical weight at all. The
wheel bearing hub itself is almost a press fit into the trailing arm
which is what takes the weight. Those 6 studs and nuts really keep the
bearing hub and brake dust guard firmly attached to the trailing arm and
there should be zero movement of the hub anywhere in the vertical plane
with the hub pushed firmly in place, studs and nuts or not.
As you note however, those bolts do take a lot of the forces during
cornering, and all 6 do need to be functioning as proper fasteners to
keep the hub from separating from the trailing arm on hard cornering or
even a power slide..
