1.  Does'nt sound like your generator is charging too well.....or you have a 
constant battery drain......turn all things electrical off.....disconnect on 
battery lead and measure the voltage across the battery terminal and the 
lead......should be zero......if more than that you have a drain or a short 
somewhere........

2.  None of us up here........including my master mechanic who also own a 
TR4A......has ever been able to do less than 850 rpm at 
idle........so..........I'd shoot for that....

3.  My  67 TR4A-IRS...was positive ground and I, of course changed it.....no 
big deal............

4.  Randall is correct........something is working in reverse........the 
ammeter is hooked up backwards..........???????
