Barrey et al,

I can tell you what is needed to fit a TR6 gearbox into a GT6, since I have
fitted both overdrive and non-overdrive versions into my GT6+!

The non-overdrive version needs no changes to the chassis, just to the
clutch activating lever on the gearbox (the standard lever happens to fill
the same space as the chassis rail), with it being bent into an 's' shape
back toward the gearbox casing. The tail extension was also modified to take
the standard GT6 gearbox mounts (a machined aluminium block was welded to
the case directly behind the speedo drive on the 2500 gearbox we used, the
TR6 box has a slightly different position for the speedo, and different
mounts, so it may actually be easier than that..I've never actually seen
one!).

The mounting plate into the car was custom made, but just bolted to the
standard holes.

Other than that, just shorten the tailshaft (same drive flange!)

The overdrive (j type) was a little more complex, with some mods to the
chassis being required to fit the overdrive between the rails as it sits
further back. (I have some more details and rather bad pictures if anybodies
interested).

So, if you want to use the standard 4 speed, it's not really that hard (mind
you I do my own welding, and I have a friend with his own very well set up
machine shop), and then you've eliminated another weak point.....next is the
diff (as discussed the other day)...and now, how about those
Rotoflexes...more work (the challenge is to make it all with Triumph parts!)

Bill and Sal Birney.......not really all that worried about originality if
it affects drivablility.
