I agree with you in every way, except that IMHO a month and a half of
un-returned phone calls and emails, as well as broken promises, is
enough time to go public, state the facts without accusing (yet) and
ask if anyone else has done biz with the guy, or knows how to contact
etc. etc.. When I say "flog away", I am using the phase because it was
already stated in that form, but what I mean is that you start gently
and eventually get out the cane! The first rule of collections is to
get to it while the trail is still warm, the longer you wait, hoping
for the best, the harder it is to track the person. If the person is
in anyway responsible, and did send a check, at the very least they
know by now that it hasn't cleared, as well as knowing that there
answering machine and computer is on the blink! Business people are
very aware of their checking account balances, when things clear
etc..The nice thing about the British car community is that most
everyone is in that 99.44% we can trust. We need to keep it that way
and help each other find the crooks. Again that's my opinion. I guess
all those years in retail, getting burned by bad checks has soured me a
little more than most.
