You might want to try contacting Motorhead in Fairfax, VA. Their number
is 1-800-527-3140. They list the contact breaker plate you
mentioned-part number DBP-100. If they don't have new ones, they
usually have a good supply of excellent used parts.
I've heard different opinions about timing the engine to 4% ATDC. My
TR6 ran like a dog until I disconnected the vacuum retard and power
timed it (about 8 to 10% BTDC). This might not be the correct thing to
do, but it sure runs better!
