I've just finished putting in my 4th set of accelerator shaft bushings, and
I've tried any number of ways to do it. The best (easiest) approach is to
remove the pedal shaft completely, and install the bushings in the vacated
holes, and then force the pedal shaft back in. Although the boiling water
trick helps when installing them, it doesn't remain pliable long enough to
allow you to push the shaft back through easily. That makes it not woth doing
in my book. So I've gone to slicing a "star washer" shape into the tapered
side of the bush and using a small screwdriver to set the drivers side one. I
then go underneath, silicone spray in hand, and line up the shaft as best I
can. If I'm lucky, and I didn't cut away too much material, I can just
squeeze it through. You've got to be in the right body position and it takes
some hand and arm strength (like Godzilla's). If I'm not lucky I get another
chance with the 2nd bush and I move the first @#$^&*^ one to the other side
which is easier to work on. I don't know how anyone could ever get the bush
installed while mounted on the shaft, but nothing is impossible?
