My '79 VW Rabbit Diesel did not have power brakes. Not enough vacuum to run
a booster. Some versions (not mine) came from the factory with a gear
driven vacuum pump bolted to the block. So when I wanted to add an
aftermarket cruise control, which used vacuum to run the servo, I had to go
to the salvage yard and find a pump from a higher-end model.
