Have you considered a sliding door instead of a swinging door?

One where the top of the door hangs from a track attached to the 
wall and the door(s) slides sideways?  The design would be a lot 
simpler, and you wouldn't have to worry about the "bending loads"
on the wall when the door is open.  The weight would be pretty
much carried as a compressive load on the wall just like the normal 
structural loads of the roof, etc...

Additionally, you wouldn't have to worry about clearing the path
of the door to open it.  And you would have the problem of the 
wind catching the door when it's blowing hard...
