paul and dan are both correct. when we raced with minilites (real ones) we used
spacers if varying thickness.  the wheel nuts were long shouldered parts.  the
shoulder fit the wheel hole with just enough room to allow the nut to turn
without dragging on the wheel.  the shouldered nuts were the centering medium. 
we
had several different length nuts to accomodate the various spacer 
configurations
and yes. the bottom of the nut must end slightly short of the hub so a true
torque is achieved. ted
